WACKY Warriors Founder
At age 18, Nick Raitt found out he had stage four alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, with a baseball-sized tumor located in his right sinus and right lymph node. Nick’s journey with cancer was “vicious and brutal†at times, but also inspiring and courageous.
During a time of remission, Nick decided he wanted to give back and so his family helped him to develop WACKY – Warriors Against Cancer in Kids and Young-adults – to be the theme for Nick’s Warriors. Wacky Warriors is a foundation supporting charities dedicated to childhood cancer research and adventure camps for young adult cancer survivors.
You can read more of Nick’s story on his blog http://www.nick-raitt.blogspot.com/ and find out about becoming a Warrior, to support your Warrior, aka Son, Daughter, Cousin, Friend, Co-Worker etc. on the Wacky Warrior website. http://wackywarriors.org/about
Three things Nick taught us when dealing with adversity:
- Always have something positive to look forward to
- Give back – be of service to others
- Find ways to have fun
Every year we meet more amazing people willing to give their time and energy to help make our event a success. Â And we know that there are many more passionate people who believe in our cause that we haven’t even met yet. Â Whether they are living with cancer, or know someone who is, their stories are what motivate all of us. Â These are just a few stories of many…if you know someone who is a community hero for the Honored Hero Run, share their story with us, we want to celebrate them too!
